Numbers 34

1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 ‘Tell the Israelites this: When you go into Canaan, your land will have edges to it.

3 The south edge will include a part of the Desert of Zin. In the east, it will begin at the south end of the Dead Sea. 4 It will go south of the place called Scorpion Pass, on to Zin. And then it will go south of Kadesh-Barnea. It will go to Hazar-Addar and over to Azmon. 5 It will turn and it will join the Wadi of Egypt. It will finish at the sea.

6 The west edge is the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

7 The north edge is a line from the Mediterranean Sea to the mountain called Hor. 8 From the mountain called Hor it will go to Lebo-Hamath. Then it will go to Zedad. 9 It will go to Ziphron and it will finish at Hazar-Enan.

10 The east edge is a line from Hazar-Enan to Shepham. 11 The line will go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain. It will go along the east of the lake called Chinnereth. 12 Then it will go along the River Jordan and it will finish at the Dead Sea.’ ^{▼▼34:12 Chinnereth is called Galilee in the New Testament.}

13 Moses said to the Israelites, ‘Cut this country into parts in the way that the LORD told you. The LORD said that you must give it to 9 and a half tribes. 14 That is because the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of Manasseh’s tribe have their land already. 15 Their land is on the east side of the River Jordan. It is opposite Jericho.’

16 The LORD said to Moses, 17 ‘Joshua, the son of Nun and Eleazar the priest must cut the country into parts. They must give the parts to the people. 18 One leader from each tribe must help them. 19 These are the names of the men who will help them: Caleb the son of Jephunneh will be the leader from the tribe of Judah. 20 And the leader from the tribe of Simeon will be Shemuel the son of Ammihud. 21 And the leader from the tribe of Benjamin will be Elidad the son of Chislon. 22 And the leader from the tribe of Dan will be Bukki the son of Jogli. 23 These will be the leaders from the descendants of Joseph: Hanniel the son of Ephod will be the leader from the tribe of Manasseh. 24 And Kemuel the son of Shiphtan will be the leader from the tribe of Ephraim. 25 And the leader from the tribe of Zebulun will be Elizaphan the son of Parnach. 26 And the leader from the tribe of Issachar will be Paltiel the son of Azzan. 27 And the leader from the tribe of Asher will be Ahihud the son of Shelomi. 28 And the leader from the tribe of Naphtali will be Pedahel the son of Ammihud.’

29 Those were the men that the LORD chose to help Joshua and Eleazar.
